Registration and Cost: Registration and payment must be made to receive credit for a course, though a course may be taken for free for no credit. Return them to us with your check or money order made out to Quartz Hill School of Theology. Courses are U.S. $50.00 each, plus the cost of books.  After you register, you will be sent your tests; it will then be your responsibility to find a proctor (someone to administer and chaparone) the tests while you take them. This may be your minister or some other professional, such as a school teacher. Credit: You can receive either CEUs (Continuing Education Units) or quarter units if you register and pass a course. Quartz Hill School of Theology is recognized by the Association of Christian Schools International and is authorized to grant CEUs in Bible. IMPORTANT: The school is otherwise unaccredited, so there is no guarantee that other institutions will accept our units. We recommend you discuss this issue ahead of time with any other institutions to which you may be planning on transferring.

Bible Summary • R.P. Nettelhorst B100 Bible Summary Bible Survey • R.P. Nettelhorst Too often, by simply splitting it into Old and New Testaments, the unity of the Bible is lost. Consequently, the Bible Survey courses follow the pattern and classifications of the Hebrew Bible for the Old Testament, and a new organization for the New Testament. Each course below is designed to be completed in a single quarter (ten weeks). Three quarter units or five CEU's may be gained for each course taken. B201 Bible Survey -- the Law A general survey of the five books of Moses known as the Pentateuch: Genesis - Deuteronomy. B202 Bible Survey -- The Former Prophets A general survey of the books of the Jewish canon labeled the Former Prophets: Joshua - 2 Kings. B203 Bible Survey -- The Latter Prophets A general survey of the books of the Jewish canon labeled the Latter Prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the twelve minor prohets: Hosea - Malachi. B204 Bible Survey -- The Writings A general survey of the books of the Jewish canon labeled Writings or Hagiopraphy, the rest of the books of the Old Testament: Psalms, Proverbs, Ruth, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, Esther, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, 1-2 Chronicles. B205 Bible Survey -- The Lives A general survey of Mark, Matthew, Luke-Acts, and John. B206 Bible Survey -- The Letters A general survey of the rest of the New Testament, the letters written by Paul, Peter, John, James, Jude, and the books of Hebrews and Revelation. Old Testament History and Archaeology • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: B201-203 Bible Survey) A look at the history of the Ancient Near East from earliest pre-history through the time of the Babylonian conquest. Each course below is designed to be completed in a single quarter (ten weeks). Three quarter units or five CEU's may be gained for each course taken. B411 Old Testament History and Archaeology I A history of the Ancient Near East from Abraham to Moses. B412 Old Testament History and Archaeology II A history of the Ancient Near East from Joshua to Solomon. B413 Old Testament History and Archaeology III A history of the Ancient Near East from the Divided Kingdom till the Babylonian Captivity. Old Testament Pseudepigrapha • Dr. Jim West An overview of the pseudepigraphic literature of the Old Testament era. B243 Old Testament Pseudepigrapha New Testament Introduction • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: B204-206 Bible Survey) An in depth look at matters relating to the authorship and criticism of the New Testament, Matthew - Revelation. Matters relating to Form Criticism, Higher Criticism, and other modern developments will be covered. The course below is designed to be completed in three quarters (thirty weeks). Nine quarter units or fifteen CEU's may be gained for the entire course. B404-6 New Testament Introduction New Testament History and Archaeology • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: B204-206 Bible Survey) A look at the history of the Near East and Mediterranean regions from the Persion period through the end of the first century AD. Each course below is designed to be completed in a single quarter (ten weeks). Three quarter units or five CEU's may be gained for each course taken. B414 New Testament History and Archaeology I A history of the Levant from Alexander the Great to Herod the Great. B415 New Testament History and Archaeology II A history of the Levant from John the Baptist to Paul. B416 New Testament History and Archaeology III A history of the Levant from Paul to Bar Kochba. The Old Testament in the New • Dr. Jim West An examination of the use of the Old Testament scriptures by the authors of the New Testament. The general purpose of this course is to supply the student with a general knowledge of the uses which were made of the Old Testament by the New Testament writers. B310 The Old Testament in the New The Historical Jesus • Dr. Jim West The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the subject known as The Historical Jesus B755 The Historical Jesus The Greek Text of Romans: A Text Critical Study • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisites: Elementary Greek and Biblical Textual Criticism) An examination of the Greek Text of the Book of Romans. B750 The Greek Text of Romans: A Text Critical Study Introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls • Dr. Jim West This course introduces the student to the phenomenon known as the Dead Sea Scrolls. Where did they come from? Who were the people who wrote them? What do they mean for modern Biblical interpretation? These are just a few of the questions we will attempt to investigate in this short study. B451 Introduction to the Dead Sea Scrolls Ugarit and the Bible • Dr. Jim West The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the literature of the ancient society of Ugarit and the significance of this material for Biblical Studies. B425 Ugarit and the Bible Ecclesiastes • Dr. Jim West The book of Ecclesiastes (Qoheleth in Hebrew) is one of the most important books in the Old Testament. The book is seldom read and often misunderstood. This course serves as an introduction to the book. B521 Ecclesiastes 2 Corinthians • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: A knowledge of New Testament Greek) The purpose of this study is to familiarize the student with the message and theology of the book of 2 Corinthians using the Greek text. B701 2 Corinthians Ephesians • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: A knowledge of New Testament Greek) The purpose of this study is to familiarize the student with the message and theology of the book of Ephesians using the Greek text. B711 Ephesians Philippians • Dr. Jim West This course serves as an introduction to Paul's letter to the Philippian church. B550 Philippians 2 Peter • Dr. Jim West This course serves as an introduction to 2 Peter. B561 2 Peter Revelation • Dr. Jim West These two courses serve as an introduction to Revelation. Charlesworth Apocalyptic Literature • Dr. Jim West This course serves as an introduction to apocalyptic materials from the Old Testament, Intertestamental, Qumran, and New Testament periods. Apocalyptic Literature Biblical Textual Criticism • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: A knowledge of Hebrew and Greek is essential) This course will introduce the student to the theory and practice of the textual criticism of the Old and New Testaments. Textual criticism is the science which seeks to establish the text which most closely resembles the original text of a document. In particular, Old Testament text criticism attempts to assemble and evaluate the various readings of the Hebrew text in order to come as close as possible to what was originally written. Likewise New Testament textual criticism strives to do the same for the Greek text of the New Testament. In addition, text criticism also seeks to understand the history and transmission of the text. L425 Biblical Textual Criticism I: Introduction A general introduction to biblical textual criticism. L426 Biblical Textual Criticism II: The Old Testament A general introduction to the textual criticism of the Old Testament. L427 Biblical Textual Criticism III: The New Testament A general introduction to the textual criticism of the New Testament. Biblical Methods • Dr. Jim West (Prerequisite: A knowledge of Hebrew and Greek is essential) The purpose of this course is to enable the student to both be familiar with and practice the methods used in the study of the Bible.The methods which will be studied in this course are: Textual Criticism, Literary Criticism, Redaction Criticism, Form Criticism, and Tradition Criticism. B725 Biblical Methods Reformation • Dr. Jim West A course covering the background and development of the Reformation, Counter Reformation and the religious wars. Each course below is designed to be completed in a single quarter (ten weeks). Three quarter units or five CEU's may be gained for each course taken. H371 Reformation I The Reformation before the Reformation: John Wycliffe. H372 Reformation II The Reformation in Germany: Martin Luther H373 Reformation III The Reformation in Switzerland: Huldrych Zwingli and John Calvin Christian Systematic Theology • R.P. Nettelhorst A basic overview of Christian Theology, studied in a more or less systematic manner, concentrating on the nature and method of theological research: how to ask questions of the text and find answers. Each course below is designed to be completed in a single quarter (ten weeks). Three quarter units or five CEU's may be gained for each course taken. B 221 Apologetics Elementary Greek • Dr. Jim West This is an intensive study of biblical Greek; the student will learn the basics of Greek grammar and vocabulary.
