I have only recently learned of the "Arian heresy". I didn't realize I wasn't the only Christian who felt that the "Trinity" was a contrivance of man. There is little I can add to the comments already posted on this site. I would however like to put in my "two cents".
I believe in one god, the creator of all. It seems painfully obvious to me that the teachings of Christ have been so corrupted by the various so called "Christian" religions, that it is easy to understand why the other religions of the world find its' doctrine faulty. It also seems to me that Christ's teachings themselves are very simple. They explain the laws of Moses (in which I find no fault or flaw, I'm probably closer to being a Jew than I am to any Christian church I've ever encountered). There are only two things that we need to remember to live the life we are commanded by scripture (both OT and NT). First and most importantly to love God. Second to love and respect his creations. Particularly our fellow man.
With this simple formula, all else falls into place. THOU SHALT NOT KILL , would you kill someone you love? THOU SHALT NOT STEAL , would you steal from someone you love? THOU SHALT NOT... etc. Why do we try to make it so complicated? Why do we try to make it so difficult?
I do not believe that Christ is a part of God, nor do I believe that the Holy Spirit is a part of God. I do however believe that God is a part of Christ, and that God is a part of the Holy Spirit. I believe Christ was the son of God and I believe that anyone who does the will of God is the son (or daughter) of God. I do not believe that we are a part of God. I believe that God is a part of us, the only part of us that has any value. The only thing that we have of any worth is our capacity to love.
As a comment on the recent pedophilial scandal in the Roman Catholic church, I would remind everyone that a tree is known by its' fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth corrupt fruit, nor can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. With that in mind, it doesn't surprise me that the truth has been labeled as heresy.
The only thing that stops me from converting to Judaism is the last step. I cannot wait for a messiah that I know has already come. It gives me great comfort to know that if God were a man, he would be a man like Christ. I wonder how his message of forgiveness and mercy ever got so lost in doctrine and dogma? I suspect it was the result of the hearts of evil men seeking domination and vanity attempting to lord their piety over their fellow man, but I guess Christ warned us about that too.
I heard about a theology that was described as Christian Jews, and I would ask anyone who has any knowledge of it to contact me. It sounds like it might be what I am, either that or I'm just an Arian heretic.
